The Brockwell Centre
The village hall in Pelton Fell, located a mile West of Chester-le-Street was completely refurbished in 2008/2009 to become the Brockwell Centre. For the work, the Pelton Fell Community Partnership (PFCP) combined with Durham County Council to raise over £1.4 million, including a substantial grant from the Community Assets Progamme of the Big Lottery Fund The new Centre opened in October 2009 and is managed by PFCP.
The faciliites at the Centre include: toilets; a main hall which can be divided into two; offices/meeting rooms for let/hire; kitchen and cafe with provision for bar facilities; Audio/visual equipment and a hearing loop.
Externally: a 22 space carpark; a children's play area with swings, roundabout, slides etc.; and multi use games area with flood lighting.
In 2011, five stained glass commemorative panels were installed in the main hall. In 2017, a replica Miners Banner was also stored in the main hall.
PFCP Is funded mainly by substantial external grant funding. However, it aims to become self-financing through the monies raised from the hire of facilities at the Brockwell Centre and other social enterprises. All monies raised will be reinvested back into the Centre and other projects within Pelton Fell. PFCP is a not-for-profit organisation.
